Marktredwitz

Marktredwitz – a modern city in the Fichtelgebirge

Marktredwitz is situated in a charming low mountain landscape between the mountains of Fichtelgebirge and Steinwald in the valley of the small river Kösseine. The distance to Bohemia in the Czech Republic is only a few kilometers.

The geographic and political situation of the city was always determined by borders. This has had a lasting impact on its development and city history. After the fall of „The Iron Curtain“, an East-West Competence Center emerged as a cross-border service center.

Marktredwitz is a popular business location in the open countryside, offering the best quality of life and is particularly characterized by its proximity to nature.

The close relationship to the city Cheb – formerly Eger – in the Czech Republic was reflected in the “Boundless Horticultural Show Marktredwitz/Eger” in 2006. At that time, the beautiful Auenpark, with lake, water playgrounds, terrace and observation tower, was created – one of four recreation areas of the region, offering numerous leisure possibilities and is simply for relaxing. Marktredwitz offers a lot of variety and is an ideal starting point for discoveries and hikes.

The city has had market rights since the Middle Ages. Economic development was favorable by its location on the important trade route from Nuremberg to Eger.

Even today Marktredwitz is an attractive and customer-friendly shopping city in the region. Every year, there are four popularly annual markets opened on Sundays as well, where the dealers offer special actions such as a long shopping night as well as weekly and flea markets. At the end of the year the „Advent Village“ is enticing. In the Advent season up to the public holiday of the Holy Trinity, over 20 families in Marktredwitz open their houses and invite interested people to see their beautiful cribs.
